After graduating with no experience in interior design, Angelyn Wong joined Rezt+Relax and has since shot up the ranks, now working as a senior designer. “The joy our clients experienced when they entered a home designed just for them gave me a sense of fulfilment,” she says. Requesting for training, Angelyn then spent a year as an apprentice with one of the company’s creative leads until she was ready to take on her own projects.Now a senior designer, Angelyn continues to be enthusiastic about her work, finding the right balance between space utilisation and a holistic living environment for her clients in population-dense cities. An example of one of her recent projects includes a Gramercy Park apartment for an overseas customer. She describes him as having a brief of designing a ‘hotel-like’ space with gold accents throughout.Armed with this guidance, Angelyn explored boutique and international hotel chains, before putting together a luxurious suite with ample space for family and guests. “As additional storage was requested, we built that into the wall adjacent to the kitchen and added a standing bar with high chairs, creating a break between the kitchen and living spaces,” she explains.Warm lighting is used throughout the entire apartment to counter the natural light coming from the floor-to-ceiling windows, with large mirrors to create a sense of space within the corridors as well as the more compact bedrooms. To bring in more depth to the interior design palette, Angelyn introduces additional colour accents like emerald green armchairs and cushions, as well as a wall display custom-made to match the furnishings in the living room.The bedrooms had to be calming yet remain in theme with the apartment, and so Angelyn reduced the hues of gold and brought in darker wood tones, shades of grey, and textured walls. To complete the look, the same texture is applied to the walls and the supporting beams for continuity. From the result, Angelyn has managed to turn a compact space into a stunning and grand apartment, which is now a much-loved home away from home.
