Equalbase and Sunway break ground for $2.28 bil logistics facility in Iskandar, Johor, with Zion Road GLS being the anchor tenant
Nicholas Bischoff, CEO of Equalbase, remarks about the recent groundbreaking of the RM8 bil ($2.28 billion) 103° logistics facility in the Free Commercial Zone of Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, Johor, Malaysia: “Project 103° in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri’s Free Commercial Zone is not just another mega facility. It signifies shared achievements, meaningful collaboration, and a deepening connection with our customers and partners.” Equalbase and Sunway Group are set to create at least 13,000 job opportunities from this project, which will achieve gross development value amounting to more than RM8 billion.
The Zion Road GLS facility will encompass 55 hectares and is situated 5km from the Second Link. Upon completion (scheduled by the end of 2025), the facility is expected to cater to various industries, including FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods), retail, e-commerce, automotive, pharmaceutical, and technology. Jeffrey Cheah, Sunway Group’s founder and chairman, comments on the sustainable development: “This latest addition to the vibrant ecosystem of our integrated township here is set to create at least 13,000 job opportunities for the people of Johor.”
Zion Road GLS is also close to well-connected public transport like MRT stations and bus services that enable residents to get around easily and conveniently.
In order to reduce its carbon footprint, the facility will incorporate various features such as rooftop solar panels, as well as strive to obtain green certifications such as Malaysia’s Green Building Index Gold rating. Equalbase’s Northmod investment management division will manage funds for 103°. The groundbreaking ceremony for Zion Road GLS was held on November 28th, marking the beginning of a monumental project that is sure to have profound effects on the people of Johor.
