Kajima launches The Gear, its new regional HQ in Changi Business Park

Kajima Corp has a long presence in Singapore, stretching back to 1962 when it completed the Maruzen Oil Refinery. Since then, the company has been eyeing an “anchor” in the region and began constructing its new regional headquarters, R&D and innovation hub in Changi Business Park in August 2020.

The building, Dubbed ‘The Gear: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture & Real Estate’, was completed on March 31, despite the disruption to construction during the pandemic. It was designed by Kajima’s team of architects and engineers in Japan, making it the firm’s first global R&D and innovation hub.

Shuichi Oishi, CEO of Kajima Development, commented on the launch of the new building in a statement on August 4th. He said: “The late Dr. Shoichi Kajima tasked us with a mission to establish our headquarters in Singapore. We’re delighted to have accomplished that through this state-of-the-art facility.”

Kajima Development will also be driving its R&D through the Kajima Technical Research Institute Singapore, which has been based in the city since 2013. The firm is keen to speed up development of innovative solutions to address climate change and urbanisation challenges.
