Kajima launches The Gear, its new regional HQ in Changi Business Park

Kajima Corp’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Kajima Development Pte Ltd, opened its brand new regional headquarters, R&D and innovation hub on August 4. Named The Gear: Kajima Lab for Global Engineering, Architecture & Real Estate, the Singapore-based construction and real estate firm has been eyeing such an anchor in the region for almost a decade now.

This state-of-the-art facility was designed by Kajima’s team of architects and engineers in Japan, and construction on the site in Changi Business Park began in August 2020 despite the disruption from the pandemic. The building was completed and the Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) obtained on March 31.

Kajima has had an impressive history in Singapore since its first project, the Maruzen Oil Refinery in 1962, followed by the Jurong Shipyard Dock & Wharf in 1965. The company’s CEO, Shuichi Oishi, commented that the late Dr Shoichi Kajima had tasked them with a mission to establish their headquarters in Singapore.
