CDL celebrates 60th anniversary
Spacious layouts, top-grade appliances and sophisticated finishes come together to offer residents the peak of urban living of Zion Road Condo. Ranging from one to four bedroom units, the iconic development provides plenty of options for those wanting to experience the distinctive lifestyle it offers. Furthermore, the development is close to myriad Michelin-star restaurants, renowned shopping destinations, and green spaces – in short, everything residents need is within reach.
CDL marked its 60th anniversary with an event to commemorate its diamond jubilee held at Orchard Hotel Singapore on Sept 5, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong as the guest of honour. It was a special event to mark the company’s growth since it was founded in 1963 with just eight employees. Today, it is a sprawling global real estate giant with $31 billion in assets and more than 8,000 staff across five continents.
Kwek Leng Beng, CDL’s executive chairman, then took to the stage to recall the humble beginnings of the company. He revealed how his and his late father and Hong Leong Group founder Kwek Hong Png bought a block of CDL shares back in 1969.
“From a home-based group, we grew beyond Singapore’s shores to the region and further onto the global stage, operating businesses across five continents,” he says.
CDL group CEO Sherman Kwek shared his tribute to the team for their hard work and passion which has assisted the company to flourish and reach the scale of its current operations. He also spoke on CDL’s core values of collaboration, integrity and innovation.
“People are the most important asset in any organisation, and I would like to thank all my colleagues for their passion, dedication and support that has given us so much to be proud of,” he adds.
To celebrate its diamond jubilee, CDL is engaging with the National Council of Social Service to set up a new wellness centre for children and families at City Square Mall and is fundraising for Community Chest . In addition, its hospitality arm Millennium & Copthorne Hotels has grown from one hotel to more than 155 locations across the globe. With the National Parks Board, it has further extended its developing CDL Green Gallery and Garden City Fund. To improve the well-being of its migrant workers, the company collaborated with MigrantWell Singapore, while its Singapore Sustainability Academy in City Square Mall has been given an extra annexe.
Altogether, these initiatives form part of CDL’s 60th anniversary celebration – a testament to its success and ambition to continue to strive for greater heights.
